Choiceworks Visual Support System Builds Executive Function Skills
Description
Choiceworks Visual Support System develops your childs executive function skiils using a combination of visuals and choices to motivate children to learn independence and self-control. Successful completion of a routine wins their choice of reward.
It's ideal for teaching task routines and transitions for children ages 3-9. Winner of the 2007 Dr. Toy and Exceptional Parent Symbol of Excellence awards. And no laminating or velcro required!
The parent-designed (and doctor approved!) Choiceworks Visual Support System includes three magnetic topic boards, each accompanied by a short story to read with your child to introduce the system:
1) Schedule Board (blue): 40 visual symbol magnets can be sequenced to teach home routines and schedules: includes symbols for morning, evening and bathroom routines, getting ready for school, going to appointments, and more. Your child chooses his/her reward for successfully completing the tasks.
2) Feelings Board (green): Supports your childs ability to gain self-control by providing clear alternatives and expectations.
3) Waiting Board (orange): Teaches your child the skills for waiting, turn taking and not interuppting. Includes a convenient timer!
ADD EXTRA IMAGES - The Choiceworks Visual Image Collection 1.0 CD includes over 175 visual images depicting additional school and home activities. Use these to create customized picture schedules.
ADD EXTRA MAGNETS & LABELS - 210 blank labels and 12 dry erase blank magnets to expand your Choiceworks System and create new magnetized symbols.
"While designed with families in mind, the Choiceworks Visual Support System would also be a wonderful addition to a child's school program, since it serves to remind parents and educators alike that we shouldn't just react to difficult situations- we should respect, teach, and support the child through them. The Choiceworks Visual Support System provides an ideal way to do just that!" -Jennifer Twachtman-Reilly, M.S., CCC-SLP, Autism Spectrum Quarterly, Fall 2007.
"My son's feels that he has control of his mornings and evenings by easily setting up the wonderfully designed pictures for his daily schedule of activities. Gone are the tantrums because we no longer have transition issues because he follows the visual queues that he set up. LOVE IT! Juneo, parent
